What are they putting in the stardawg/weed (potency)

2020.08.07 14:43 longlo90 What are they putting in the stardawg/weed (potency)

Story time: as we all know stardawg is quite potent in general but it's all my dealer had since like 2018 so i started to venture online to acquire more variety (which ive been doing).
From time to time i'll go to dealer (who takes ages to meet, part of the reason why i explored to get it online delivered in the first place) anytime i want it there and then and dont want to wait (but usually i can wait a day or two via online). This time around its been about 5 days since i smoked and it was g13, quite a potent strain.
Was craving some weed so I get the stardawg from dealer ( been 2.5 months) and notice my dealer stepped up the bud quality, very dense and trichomes on point, beautiful nugs, i let him know and he says 'yh i had to step up my game a lot of crazy weed out about now' (something around those lines).
I get back home and i had a pizza en route for delivery and i decide to roll a joint up as usual and smoke it. 1/3 into the joint im feeling really really good (keep mind it was a medium sized joint). 1/2 way in i remember putting on my face mask for w e reason and thinking back i think it had some hotbox effect. I just remember it felt like i was in a digital world all of a sudden.
So immediately i try and get in my house, i was just 20 feet away. On the way it was like my legs/body turned to mush.An out of this world high and part of me enjoyed it, most of me was terrified even though i consider myself a seasoned smoker (with a bong and dynavap at home). So half way to door i see a ledge to lean over to catch my breath.
Few minutes in i just collapse on the concrete, maybe passed out for 10 secs before willing myself up. Luckily it was around 12:20 A.M so no one in sight. I get up feeling woozy still and attempt to get drink and once again i wake up from floor which im guessing was another 10-20 secs (could have been a full minute not entirely sure).
I get up again and finally muster strength to walk to door ( i have airpods in and music made otherworldly experience feel even more pronounced).
Anyways i scramble for keys and once again im feeling woozy and find myself waking up yet again on the floor not remembering when i dropped. This happened 3 times. I wake up, dust myself up and pizza man comes asking if he had right address, i confirm( he might have seen me laid out).
I get the pizza and just chill on the floor for a good 20 more minutes to catch my breathe and strength. It just felt like the gravity intensified or something.
Fortunately i had a panic attack/green when i first started smoking so i knew not to panic, take huge deep breathes and reassure myself it'd pass with time to avoid further rapid heart beating. I finally muster enough strength to open door, go up flight of stairs, open door put pizza down and laid half way on bed for 4 hours.
Wake up thinking what the absolute FUCK. Never have i had an experience that intense and scary and again it was only about 5 days since i smoked and the joint wasnt big nor did i even finish it.
At first felt like dealer spiked it but now im thinking the elevation mask was partly the cause of it plus the heat. All i know is one, im fortunate it was very late and no one walking around to witness the absolute embarrassment of me laid out multiple times in a 40 minute period.
Also that i was at least NEAR home and not at a function. Ive tried several strains via online, girl scout cookies, strawberry haze, gorrilla glue #4, skywalker og, super lemon haze, g13, zskittles and I'd say the most potent was gg#4 and gsc. Still neither intense as this particular stardawg experience. I also note, my dealer seems to upgrade every 6 months.
After i wake up i get some food in belly, take a nicr shower. Decide to fire up a bowl, (the most hesitant i been since i was a beginner smoker). Can confirm its some high grade stardawg. Usually nicely baked after 2 bowls. 3/4s of a one bowl in with very shallow rips might i add im at a (8) and has me stoned and its been 4 hours. Incredible.
Tl;Dr always pace yourself no matter how advanced you think you are when trying "new" weed. I figured i tried stardawg dozens of times this time couldn't be MUCH different but boy was i wrong.
The elevation mask might have played a factor on the initial run plus 5 day tolerance but the experience just felt x50 of normal highs ive had in the last year at least.

This Is More Than Weight Loss!
Hello everyone! My name is Calista Pappas Co-Creator of Respond Fitness. I wanted to personally share my transformation and weight loss story with you as inspiration and to be transparent. So, if you're in need of a little motivation to tweak your lifestyle for the better, you're in exactly the right place.
First, let’s all agree that all body transformations are more than 'before' and 'after' pictures. They are incredible journeys, and behind there's inspiring stories about how we all embarked on our own journey to a healthier self.
My story is not one of overnight success. I didn’t take a magic pill. My results were not from a fad diet or a product from an infomercial. My journey has been more like a roller coaster ride of trials, many errors, and a collection of small milestones along the way, eventually leading to more than I ever expected to gain.
In 2016, I was an unhappy college girl with no self-esteem, trapped beneath a baggy t-shirts and yoga pants and desperate to lose weight to just be normal. I had no idea that the next couple years would turn into a journey of self-discovery, freedom, and finding joy.
It took many years of me trying to lose weight, I tried a lot of different weight loss diets, programs, and even some gimmicks. I had stuck in a pattern of unhealthy starving and binging where I would not eat until dinner and then eat large portions of somewhat healthy food. I didn’t know anything about eating cues and portion sizes. During this period, I became incredibly self-conscious. I felt like my weight defined me. To make matters worse, it got to the point where I was undervaluing myself in relationships and friendships. Soon enough, I'd dug myself into a deep dark hole where I felt completely and utterly alone.
It wasn’t until my car accident in the summer of 2016 where I really began to appreciate my body and work on strengthening it.
MY WAKE-UP CALL
In July of 2016 I had my big wake-up call. While out running around the FSU campus, I was hit while crossing in a crosswalk. I rolled onto the front of the truck and fell on the ground. All I really remember is the agonizing pain I felt when I became conscious and the EMTs and police told me not to move. When I got to the hospital, which I don’t remember at all, I immediately had surgery to fixate my femur and a previous incision that had reopened. When I awakened, I couldn’t move my lower body at all because I had broken my pelvis in two places. For the next three days I had to wait in the hospital bed for the orthopedic surgeon to be available. This was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my whole life.
After three days, I received an external fixator that held my hips in place that I had to wear for eight weeks. At this point, I had lost so much strength and muscle and just standing was difficult. It would take weeks for me to be able to walk with a walker without immense pain or assistance. What really pushed me forward through those initial difficult weeks was the unwavering support of my friends and family. I felt so lucky to have so many people care about me, but the reality of my situation and being completely reliant on my mom and nurses for support caused me to become pretty depressed at times.
Through the next couple months, I struggled with my inability to exercise, to run, to function as a normal person without a walker. I felt weak and isolated. But as I got stronger and I had the external fixator removed, I began to learn how to use strength training and nutrition to make my body better and healthier.

LOOKING AHEAD
Before the accident, I thought skinny meant healthy and happy, but I didn’t know it at the time, my deep insecurities had led me into an emotionally abusive mindset, lacking self-love. I didn’t feel like I fit anywhere. I felt completely inadequate and just wanted to hide. Finally, I realized that changing my attitude toward food and exercise was something I needed to work on not for weeks, months, or years, but my whole life. I needed to learn how to focus on what I want most versus what I want now. I was exercising for all the wrong reasons including focusing on other people’s body’s and not appreciating my own.
My next goal was to establish a fitness routine and build that into my lifestyle. The problem was, I was too scared to try most of the classes offered at my gym. Gym people always seem to know what they’re doing and I just…didn’t. I just didn’t understand how to have a structured workout routine. I was still stuck in the mindset that cardio meant skinny and skinny meant happiness and attractiveness. So, I would just do hours of the Stairmaster and spinning per week. However, with a broken hip my body started the alarm signals and I suffered immense back pain. I would usually spend at least half an hour a day just lying on the floor because my back hurt so badly.
Once the pain became too much for me to bear and I realized I was continuing habits of unhealthy starving and binging, I actually started researching nutrition and exercise.
THE ‘AHA’ MOMENT
A friend suggested doing a psychological exercise to determine my core values in life. To my surprise my health was number one. However, I realized that I was doing my best to destroy my number one priority in life. I was shocked and had a moment of clarity. This ‘Aha’ Moment planted a seed and the changes didn’t happen overnight, but my journey to better health and life was started.
TAKING HEALTH AND FITNESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL
That’s when I decided to start strength training. I used to think I always had to be running or doing some other form of cardio to be healthy. I didn’t understand the importance of muscle to hold bones in place and that muscle uses energy from food too.
Need some major inspiration to jump-start your weight-loss goals? Look no further. Calista Pappas is a Transformation Coach who helps women and men revolutionize their lives by using unique tools to change their identity, tap into their limitless potential and connect to their purpose in life.
Strength training had started to give me confidence. I didn’t feel like hiding anymore. I still didn’t want all of the attention drawn to me, but I dabbled in a variety of exercises that year and was always working on something to keep myself healthy. I tried a variety of strength training exercises I would have never tried before the accident! I can honestly say I never tried to do a deadlift or a barbell squat until I was 21. I started noticing the decreased pain from working on my glute and hip strength.
Outside of exercise, my social confidence was building, too. I left my comfort zone and went on adventures by myself. I started striking up conversations with neighbors and people in the grocery store. I was officially done hiding and starting to believe in myself and I had value. I began to feel comfortable in my own skin, which meant I didn’t have to seek out value from others.
I have always been a lover of all foods. All throughout high school and in college, I had committed to an unhealthy style of eating where I would restrict and binge. In 2018, I started improving my diet and diving into research about nutrition, weight-loss and health. I read soooo many books about foods and nutrition. I applied the knowledge I had learned in my nutrition and metabolism courses to my own day to day life. I also enrolled to a master’s program to study public health and learn more about helping others make healthy lifestyle changes.
I started buying spaghetti squash, Greek yogurt, zucchini, baby spinach, quinoa, and fish. I slowly began to adapt an intuitive eating diet, eating mostly healthy and nutritious foods, and soon began I craved it and ate it often! And, unless I was meeting friends, I didn’t eat out.
I used to dream about Chinese food and chocolate chip cookie dough out of the sleeve and Papa John’s pizza and then when I actually had the freedom to go to those places whenever I wanted to, it turned out I really didn’t want to. I switched to a high-protein, low fat diet that was included nutritious and whole foods. I had to learn how to make food taste good because I was one of those people who couldn’t eat bland and tasteless food. Through hours and hours of researching and experimenting in the kitchen, I found the tricks on how to make healthy meals taste absolutely delicious. You don’t need to sacrifice a flavor or your health.

I still eat Life Saver Gummies, chocolate, and french fries when I want to, but now, instead of a box of girl scout thin mints (oh, how I love them) disappearing in one night, they were lasting me a month or more. Most of the time I balance between all these approaches above and incorporating some new cooked foods in my diet. My energy and health improved dramatically. I no longer suffered from pain or fatigue or hunger. During my independent research and studies at school I have gained invaluable knowledge which I felt I had to share with the world. What I went through inspired me to become a certified American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Personal Trainer and Health Coach so that I could help others. It also motivated me to step up to new challenges.
I EXPOSE MYSELF BECAUSE WE NEED MORE HONESTY
For me, the key to success was one small change at a time. Going from soda to lemonade. Then to light lemonade, flavored water, fruit infused water, and finally plain water. Going from no vegetables to a few microwaved frozen vegetables then learning to cook fresh vegetables and now I pack my meals full of vegetables. I expose myself because we need more honesty.
It’s so scary! But I feel that there are so many women out there who are struggling with their weight and body image, and they’re tired of hearing these stories that all you need to do is just eat clean, exercise a little bit and it’s enough to get and stay in shape!
Well, it may be true for some people, but for most regular women and men it’s not the case! And I’m going to show that it’s normal to face challenges in life sometimes, it’s OK to stumble and fall, and that no matter what, you can get up and glean incredible wisdom from your failures.
THE AFTERMATH
Every diet or exercise program I tried, I learned something from it that I carried on with me to create a healthy lifestyle I genuinely love living. Now, nothing is off limits to me and that actually was the key for me to eat everything in moderation. As a result of all of those small changes in my healthy eating and exercise, I dropped 30 pounds that year. And I’ve kept it off ever since. No more dieting. No more forcing myself to go through the motions. I had worked my way, one step at a time, to food freedom.
Now, those healthy habits I developed in my fitness weight loss journey are just my normal, a normal I happen to absolutely love living. I eat what I love, I have the energy and stamina to do the things I enjoy, and I just feel good. Even though it’s about the weight, it’s not really about the weight. It’s really not even about my goal weight anymore.
It’s about freedom.
I’m doing things I never thought I was capable of. It’s about being healthy and active and taking care of myself so that I can build the life I want to live. It’s about seizing the day, instead of trying to hide, hoping no one will notice me. It’s about being confident in who I’ve become and embracing both my strengths and my weaknesses. Instead of being scared to try new things, I’m eager to take advantage of new experiences. It’s about making good choices most of the time when it comes to both movement and nutrition, but not being a slave to counting calories or forbidding foods from my diet. And now, I want to pass that on to others. I want you to know that, no matter what your starting place is, you can find that freedom, too. Sometimes you just need someone to believe in you and help you take the first step.
You can lose the weight and live a healthier life, no matter how far away you feel from that goal right now. One step, one small change at a time, transform your life. You can do this! Start right now. Just Respond!

CALISTA TOP TIPS TO START FRESH:
  1. Never give up on yourself. I constantly told myself that if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. I needed to be patient, because change doesn’t happen overnight. Your body is a tool—listen to it. Observe how it reacts to different foods and cut out those that don’t make you thrive physically, mentally and emotionally.
  2. Start in your comfort zone. So I started walking around my block instead—something I was already comfortable doing. She worked her way up from 30-minute sessions to two-hour walks, lacing up five or six times a week. Build confidence with baby steps. One small step kicked off some bigger changes and confidence in my ability to stick to something.
  3. Stay in your lane. Do what works for you and don’t compare yourself to others,” she says. Everyone is different and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Keep it simple.
  4. Want it—for realz. Do weights before cardio so you're not depleting your energy before you start lifting.
  5. Do not fear the weight room. Go heavy. "If I can do more than ten reps, I bump the weight up."
  6. Perform intervals instead of steady-state cardio. "I go as hard as I can, then recover and repeat. If I get to 20 minutes, it's a rare day!"
  7. Immediately after your workout, consume a whey isolate protein shake and a fast-acting carb. Lighten up on carbs—without ditching them. Instead of giving up carbs entirely—as if!—she reached for low-calorie or low-carb versions of staples like bread and tortillas.
  8. Skip soda. Pound that water. Once I realized that soda was nothing but empty calories, I swapped my beverage of choice to water instead. It was super uncomfortable at first, but after eight years, I can honestly say I no longer crave soda like I used to.
  9. Eat! If you don't eat enough, you won't build muscle. Cancel the whole “all-or-nothing” thing.
  10. Shout your goal from the rooftops. It helped keep me accountable because I knew others were watching,” she says, noting that private people can still follow suit by sharing with just one other person.
  11. Log your intake. It turns out that the “written word” can be powerful when it comes to shedding pounds. In a study funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health, researchers found that people who kept a food diary lost twice as much weight as those who didn’t track anything.
HELP ME CHOOSE
There’s no such thing as a stupid question. Empower yourself to ask for help and fight for the person you want to become. Each day chip away at your goals. You don’t need to start with a leap: just baby steps. If you need any fitness help, send me a DM and tell me a little bit about yourself and what you're looking to achieve, I would love to help! 2020.08.02 07:51 NajxxlaN How to Improve the Rivals in Yandere Simulator

How to Improve the Rivals in Yandere Simulator
I got bored yesterday and wondered “what if the rivals don’t necessarily have a crush on Senpai yet Ayano is jealous of how a girl is getting close to him?”. A lot of people aren't satisfied with how all the rivals want Senpai while he's just a basic F-boy and the pedophile teacher and nurse.
I believe Yandere Simulator could be a successful game if the rivals were more than a bunch of brainless hopeless romantics. So, here is my alternative storyline.

Osana Najimi: Well, since she’s the first rival and is Senpai’s childhood friend, I left her alone. She’d still have a crush on Senpai yet since she’s the closest to Senpai other than his sister, Ayano is obliged to get rid of her.
Elimination: Whatever the player wants.
Amai Odayaka: Depending on how you eliminate Osana, Senpai will meet Amai at her bakery only to realize she attends his school too. Amai will help Senpai cope with his loss by teaching him how to bake and such and listen to his thoughts. Amai might still be interested in Senpai, but most likely after they graduate high school.
Elimination: Spoil Amai’s cooking.
Kizana Sunobu: There will be a Romeo and Juliet play at school on the 3rd week on Friday. Since Kizana is a popular girl and the leader of the Drama Club, of course, she’d be Juliet. Kizana would ask her club members to scout for a Romeo in the senior class. Riku is close friends with Senpai and he’d convince him to join the play. Ayano soon learns that Senpai will be performing and will become paranoid about how another girl will kiss Senpai, even if it’s just acting.
Elimination: Become Juliet, or join the club and perform the killing act.
Oka Ruto: Oka will return to school on the 4th week. Senpai is a bookworm yet he never read any books that had anything to do with the supernatural, so he decides to visit the Occult Club to learn some new stuff. Ayano will think Oka cast a spell on Senpai and is trying to sacrifice him to the demons, even though Oka is a baby and wouldn’t hurt a fly.
Elimination: Sacrifice Oka.
Asu Rito: Senpai noticed that he has been putting on some weight, perhaps from Amai’s food. The gym teacher notices and persuades Senpai to try to exercise with the Sports Club for a week at least. He will be escorted to Asu and she will be his personal trainer, and Ayano is infuriated.
Elimination: Make Senpai gain more weight than he had initially…?
Muja Kina: Senpai will be sick for some days and will visit the infirmary often. To his surprise, it’s a substitute nurse. Muja will treat him kindly, and Senpai will grow more comfortable with her. And again, Ayano doesn’t like that.
Elimination: Substitute her medicine with rat poison.
Mida Rana: Mida will be the substitute teacher for a week. Mida is a smart independent woman who happens to have male admirers, yet she is strict and won’t hesitate to call out anyone who misbehaves in her class. Senpai’s grades will drop and Mida insists to help him with his studying. Mida nor Senpai will have any romantic feelings towards one another, yet Ayano thinks otherwise.
Elimination: Expel her by searching up dirt or framing her.
Osoro Shidesu: Osoro is back and worse than she has ever been. Well, kinda. The delinquents will begin to target Senpai as he’s a fragile cookie and Osoro would do absolutely nothing about it. Ayano puts on her knight in shining armor clothes and needs to defend Senpai.
Elimination: Expel Osoro and the delinquents for good.
Hanako Yamada: Hanako is a new student. Senpai and Hanako have a really close sibling relationship. Ayano thinks that a sister like her will prevent her from being with Senpai, literally, at this point it doesn’t matter what relationship he has with another woman. She sees any woman as a threat.
Elimination: Befriend Hanako, or matchmake her with someone else so she learns that love is an amazing thing.
Megami Saikou: I am aware that Megami doesn’t have a crush on Senpai but instead is trying to protect him and expose Ayano, and she is not going to lose him while working her ass off for the past 9 weeks to isolate him from everyone else.
Elimination: Manipulate her by boosting your reputation.

That’s all that I have for now. What are your thoughts?
Also, I was a fan since 2016-2018, and here is an old comic I made in mid-2018 with a very stupid pun that everyone and their mom knows.

2020.05.12 17:00 TheOldKanyeWest Throwback Write-Up #8: MF DOOM - MM...FOOD

Artist: MF DOOM
Album: MM...FOOD

Introduction

MM...FOOD is Daniel Dumile’s 5th studio album, but only the 2nd album released under the MF DOOM name. The album title itself is an anagram for MF DOOM. At 15 tracks and 48 minutes long, MM...FOOD stands as one of DOOM’s most critically acclaimed releases, but is often overshadowed by its counterpart, Madvillainy. The album is themed around food, with the title, cover, song titles, lyrics, and samples all based around food or food metaphors. The project’s cover presents DOOM eating, with his son under the table also wearing a mask. DOOM’s son was known to actually wear his father’s masks, as revealed by tweets from MF GRIMM during a small dispute. The album was released on November 16th, 2004 under the Rhymesayers Entertainment label. For the sake of length and formatting, I will not be writing sections about DOOM’s origins, past, or career before 2004, and instead get right into the thick of things.

2004

2004 was DOOM’s creative peak, the only time where he would ever release 3 projects in the same year. This is not a new concept in hip-hop, as many artists have taken advantage of their peak, whether in popularity or creativity. DaBaby did this exact thing last year with Baby on Baby and KIRK. DMX did it in 1998 with Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood and It’s Dark and Hell is Hot. DOOM did it with Madvillainy in March 2004, followed up with Venomous Villain under the Viktor Vaughn alias, and finished with MM...FOOD in November. We witness DOOM in 3 completely different creative pockets here. Madvillainy was a triumph, a moment in hip-hop that showed everyone what a one rapper one producer album should sound like. On that album, DOOM is slow, cold and calculated. The production is vivid, menacing at times, but retains the balance of DOOM’s sharp-witted rhymes and supervillain inspired persona. MM...FOOD contrasts its legendary predecessor in many ways. Its much more lighthearted, more colorful, and loose. A more fair comparison would be MF DOOM’s first album, Operation: Doomsday. The album presents a much more “fun” tone, and makes an easier first listen. The album also sports plenty of silly skits, often using food-related banter or the usual Doctor Doom samples you can find on almost any DOOM album.

Track by Track

  1. Beef Rap - Containing 9 samples, including the 1982 Spider-Man Canon of Doom, Beef Rap serves as the exciting intro to the album, with a slow but steady buildup using food-based samples. One small skit in the intro directly references Operation: Doomsday. DOOM comes in after 1:48 of samples have already played, and the food lyrics come out immediately. The song title and subject is about rap beef, and what happens when you get into beefs with rappers you should not bother with in the first place. DOOM uses food metaphors to describe rap beef, at one point comparing rap beef to eating fried food, and how it can kill you.
  2. Hoe Cakes - The second song on MM...FOOD is about women, pimping them out and showing them off. The song’s title is a double entendre. Hoe cakes are a flatbread thin cake, which were made in a flat iron pan called a hoe. The other meaning I am sure you can understand for yourself. Using 4 samples, the song’s opening verse takes strong inspiration from 1988’s EMPD by Jane.
  3. Potholderz (ft. Count Bass D) - The first song on the album with a feature, Count Bass D brings impressive verses and a fantastic, very unique beat. The song has 4 samples, including Still D.R.E. and Aint No Half Steppin by Big Daddy Kane. The food metaphors continue, with lines such as “MC’s is crabs in a barrel, pass the Old Bay.” The song is about old school rappers, ones who are past their primes and are no longer competition to rappers like DOOM.
  4. One Beer - Produced by Madlib, One Beer contains one of the best beats on the album. It was originally planned for Madvillainy under the name One Beer (Drunk Version), but was scrapped from that project and landed here. The song’s intro is DOOM’s own spin on Cole Porter’s I Get a Kick Out of You. The song’s music video was released in 2018 for the album’s 14th anniversary.
  5. Deep Fried Frenz - produced by DOOM himself, the song is about friendship and all the ups and downs that come alongside it. The beat is featured on DOOM’s Special Herbs Vol. 1 and 2. It has 2 samples, including Friends by Whodini.
  6. Poo-Putt Platter - Track 6 on the album is the beginning of a 4 part sound collage series of various food-related samples and catchy beats. The track samples Fat Albert’s Halloween special. HipHopHeads would also recognize this DOOM beat on Joey Bada$$’s song World Domination, from his debut mixtape 1999.
  7. Fillet-O-Rapper - the second part of the 4 part sound collage series. The album continues on with yet more uncharacteristic but entertaining production. The samples continue to fuel the food theme with lines such as “I got a really stressful day and I really really needed some food. Something healthy like beets.” (You get it)
  8. Gumbo - the 3rd of the 4 part series, Gumbo starts on the same sample Fillet-O-Rapper ended on, beginning with the word Gumbo. It makes for a clever and smooth transition. Gumbo is a fun skit that makes wordplay on the idea of consumable raps, from a documentary of edible wraps.
  9. Fig Leaf Bi-Carbonate - containing a Sesame Street sample, this is the final part of the 4 part sound collage series in the middle of the album. The skit themes itself around the idea of poison, and the safety of eating.
  10. Kon Karne - translated in Spanish to literally mean “with meat,” Kon Karne is the most touching song on the album. It serves as a tribute to DOOM’s late brother DJ Subroc, who was killed in a car crash in 1993. Produced by DOOM himself, he utilizes the vocal sample to sound like lasers shooting over a calmly sped up piano, making for an odd but interesting sound clash.
  11. Guinesses (ft. Angelika and 4ize) - A common idea on many of DOOM’s earlier releases is having one track in the later halves of his albums to be soley rapped or sung by a female artist. Guinesses is that song, the Metalface is nowhere to be heard on this track. Female rapper Angelika takes the spotlight on a verse centered around drinking away your sorrows due to an ended relationship.
  12. Kon Queso - Kon Queso continues the food metaphors by referencing both cheese as food and money. The song was originally released as a single for vinyl under the name Yee Haw, but was rerecorded for the project. In an interview with XXL Magazine, DOOM was quoted for saying this about Kon Queso: ”It had to be two things: It had to be a food people could relate to and there had to be another play on the word. For instance, I’d say con queso, like cheese. Everyone knows “cheese” has a reference in the street, as money and whatnot. And cheese is something that’s always added in addition to a cheeseburger or a beef patty. So it’s about finding a word where you can take two different approaches to it.”
  13. Rapp Snitches Knishes (ft. Mr. Fantastik) - Referenced by HHH to death during the 6ix9ine trials, Rapp Snitches Knishes is about snitches in hip hop, specifically rappers that snitch on themselves by bragging about their crimes on songs. Possibly the best hook on the album, the show is stolen by a mysterious MC named Mr. Fantastik, who no one is entirely sure who he is to this day. Mr. Fantastik has remained an interesting discussion point among DOOM fans as to who he is/was and why we never heard from him again.
  14. Vomitspit - originally titled Vomit, the 14th song on MM...FOOD is about medication, specifically pills. The song is one of DOOM’s slickest, full of amazing lyrics and incredible rhyme schemes. The song has a Cuthead remix from 2014.
  15. Kookies - the closer of MM...FOOD, DOOM references many different types of cookies, including wafers, Oreos, and Girl Scout Cookies. The song has close ties to the Langston Hughes poem titled Harlem Sweeties, which similarly talks about sweets, comparing them to women. DOOM also references edibles in cookies. The song’s lyrics also talk about DOOM being caught masturbating to internet porn found on his computer, which makes for a very strange but hilarious album conclusion.

Leftovers

After MM...FOOD was released, DOOM was not finished, and released a bonus disc titled MM...Leftovers:format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-375551-1536477634-3274.png.jpg). The disc contained 10 tracks consisting of remixes from the original album and throwaways that never made the cut. Other songs such as Vomitspit would have their originally recorded versions on this compilation as well. The original version of this bonus disc is quite rare and not commonly seen anymore, even by avid DOOM collectors.

Conclusion

MM...Food is a classic, and one of DOOM’s best projects in his discography. The album is pure fun, while also being capable of discussing more serious topics. The idea of a food themed album is one many rappers would have not approached, and fits perfectly in the weirdly creative mind we all know DOOM possesses. MM...Food can be credited as an interesting and unique project in the DOOM catalog from the man’s peak as a rapper. This is the DOOM we will never hear again, one who just rapped for the sake of rapping and finding weird, kooky ways to add a personal twist to it that no other rapper would try. On paper, a food album doesn't seem the most appealing, and might come off as a more plain topic in a genre full of complicated, deep messaging. But that’s the best thing about DOOM, the supervillain can make anything work.
What do you think of this album?
Favorite song?
Favorite beat?

2020.05.05 17:57 Mel0n_Collie [OC] What if every world cup team had the same population? - Group G

Afternoon all, welcome back to the series that Gary Neville described as ‘How did you get this number, no I don’t know what you’re on about, piss off’. So far I’ve brought to life the teams of 24 hypothetical regions, that’s an entire Euro 2020’s worth! hmm that gives me an idea...
Before I begin separating the counties of Estonia, let’s stay focused and remind ourselves of how we got this far.
Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E, Group F,
Today’s post details the squads of the tournament’s penultimate group. Whilst this pool of players isn’t the greatest, they will be playing in front of the most participant sets of fans. Mexican waves meet Vuvuzelas in the battle for top spot while the other two’s wavin flags will look like this.
Southern Africa
South Africa, Lesotho, Eswantini, Mauritius, Reuinion, Comoros, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Angola, Tanzania
Population (millions): 255.34
The part of the world that brought us the only African world cup to date (and some other less wholesome moments in history), this southern hemispheric subcontinent has underachieved in modern memory.
The region is a mix of engrossed and apathetic when it comes to footballing subscription in the public consciousness, with four of the top seven African GDP’s per capita, their resources should theoretically be better than anyones. Just four World Cup qualifications (one of those by default) makes this the second least punctual region of the continent.
Lusophone’s Angola are the exception to an otherwise South African sweep of appearances. The ‘Giant sable antelopes’ (I’m sure it sounds better in portuguese) shocked the CAF by toppling Nigeria by the narrowest of margins to reach the 2006 finals; the nation’s top scorer and Barbie Girl singing eurodance group Akwá was the protagonist in a 1-0 win against the Super Eagles, this retrospectively acted as a tie-breaker when David & Goliath finished with the same points in their qualifying group. Their time in Germany was short yet respectable, conceding just two goals in three games and almost holding their colonisers Portugal to a bore draw, revenge is sweet.
A rugby nation by trade, South Africa were crowned World Cup champions just last year, unfortunately for soccer fans they have flattered to deceive in the world’s most beloved game. A ‘golden generation’ in 2002 featured the coloured careers of Steven Pienaar, Benni McCarthy, Lucas Radebe and Quinton Fortune; failing to escape an easy group, a huge opportunity missed. 18 years on Bafana Bafana’s only big names are of a literal sense.
Contrary to what I would have guessed, South Africa is not the regions most populous nation; Tanzania’s 56 million inhabitants puts them level with England, and the nation seem to identify as footyholics as much as their historic oppressors, unfortunately they haven’t got their money's worth for their sporting subscription.
The tiny island of reunion has produced the likes of Dimitri Payet and Laurent Robert, but since still being a French territory, anyone worth their salt gets a plane to Paris.
Botswana fail to feature in the squad, but with top clubs called ‘Meat Commision’ and ‘Miscellaneous’, it might be safe to say the nation isn’t taking the game as seriously as others.

On paper the team shouldn’t need to rely on talismanic powers as the middling quality runs true throughout this team. Aston Villa surely have a scout in this part of the world as they are blessed with the services of key players Marvellous Nakamba and Mbwana Samatta.
Samatta became the Premier League’s first Tanzanian in January and will hopefully have a chance to add to his three appearances sooner rather than later. The imposing frontman scored 23 goals in the Belgian league in 2018-19 which makes him almost over qualified to lead the line in this XI.
Patson Daka was 13 and playing for locals Nchanga Rangers when Zambia sensationally shocked the world to lift the 2012 AFCON; the goldenboy of a generation determined to sequel the Copper Bullets’ success. The speedy Salzburg striker already has 24 caps for his country, time will tell if he is to follow Haaland and Minamino out of Austria to a European giant.
Mononymous Angolan Bastos will command the defence as best he can. Although recently struggling to make the squad, Bastos has served Lazio well with his protective prowess.
A plethora of pacey playmakers completes the assembly that will most likely finish runners up in this group. An exit in the round of 16 is on the cards as by process of elimination lots of you have already worked out Group H’s heavyweights are North & Central Europe.
West India
3 Indian States (Maharashtra, Gujurat, Madhya Pradesh)

All the way back to the simpler time of Group A I hastily declared Uttar Pradesh as the worst region in the world, I’d like to publicly apologize for that remark as it’s become clear to me that West India is the bottom of a very deep barrell.
The region that provides the setting for Slumdog Millionaire has plenty to answer for as finding 22 players in this part of the world was harder than a where's wally of Manish market.

With 8 caps for the national team, Rahul Bheke is made to look like prime Cafu alongside his defensive compatriots. The Bengaluru full back plays a leading role in a one-star Bollywood show.
Aniket Jadnav is maybe the one to keep an eye on, the wide forward failed trials at Blackburn late last year, but the fact that they even asked him makes this teenage talent the side’s crappy Mbappe.
A Bombay mix of unknowns will be thankful they haven’t drawn against the real heavyweights of the competition, or they could be on the end of a cricket score.
Mexico & Central US
Mexico, 16 US States (Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois)
Population (millions): 244.75
The big wall will have to wait as this side leaves rednecks turning in their trailers. The region has fathered two point three tournaments with one on the way, but the main feature of this team always seems to leave the party early when it’s not at their house.
Mexico have been excruciatingly expelled in the second round an eye-watering SEVEN times running, the sombrero wearing soccer obsessed Senior’s are so frequently the bridesmaid it’s no exaggeration to call them football’s spinsters.
The US’s largest state, Texas, is the birthplace of one of America’s greatest players and worst rappers, Clint Dempsey. His impressive club career was an MLS sandwich with a London filling, the posterboy of a Fulham team that miraculously reached the Europa league final. Romantically tied with fellow yank legend Landon Donovan, Dempsey retired joint top scorer for USMNT, including four goals in three seperate world cups.
Mexican legends of the game include Hugo Sanchez, who scored over 200 goals for Real Madrid, and Barcelona treble winner Rafael Marquez who incredibly played 19 games across five World Cups, considering they never manage more than four, that’s almost as good as it gets.
Today El Tri are seemingly at the beginning of a promising Mexican generation that coincides with some notable late bloomers.

One of the more mundane concoctions, it’s plain to see that Johnathan Brooks is the only ‘American’ to dare cross the border. The centre back scored a winner against Ghana in 2014 avenging the defeat of 2010.
After struggling badly at Atleti and then Benfica, it’s an unlikely story that aged 27 Raul signed for Wolves and has since become one of the Premier Leagues most feared strikers. The nation is hoping to harness whatever time he’ll be able to stay at this level, having scored five goals in a winning Gold Cup campaign.
Eredivisie fans will be familiar with Guardado and Alvarez, the bookends of a variety of age groups in the middle of the park.
‘Chucky’ Lozano is the posterboy, the Napoli winger scored the only goal in an historic victory over 2014 champions Germany. At just 24, it shouldn’t be of too much concern that he is competing to become a regular amongst fierce Neopolitan competition.
As usual, perhaps North-America’s best bet for success. They should win this group, but with the second round curse yet to be broken, maybe another John Brooks goal is needed to make the quarters.

The capital with plenty of capital, Beijing is the focal point of a Chinese region that stands the best chance of all it’s countryfolk. The region boasts half of the national team’s top ten appearance makers.
Liaoning is the most vibrant reserve of Chinese talent, defender Sun Jihai is often revered as the country's greatest player with 127 premier league appearances for Man City, after years of battling relegation his departure came just one month before the Abu Dhabi group took over, a cautious tale of what happens when you let cookies decide your fortune.
Domestic football is rife in the region with six of 16 CSL teams, including Beijing Guoan, who pay for the services of Cedric Bakambu and Renato Augusto.

Ex-Celtic and Charlton midfielder Zheng Zhi has 108 national caps and counting, still wearing the arm-band at 39 years old. An industrious and efficient playstyle combined with terrific passing range lends itself to still being able to compete at such a late age, although he will require the leg work of fellow 30-somethings Wu Xi and Chi Zhonguo if moves can be made.
Born in London, Nico Yennaris or ‘Li Ke’ was the first ever naturalised Chinese player, the former Arsenal youth and Brentford stalwart is hoping to become a trailblazer to the development of Asian football.
It isn’t an absolute certainty that this team will come third, but beating Southern Africa will be key, in a group of subjectively low quality, China’s best team is maybe their only hope.
Emotional times as tomorrow brings the final group, by this point it should be obvious who’s left.
See you all in the comments to discover what I’ve got wrong today (I will comb through the whole thing with your suggestions once this is done).

2020.03.30 23:24 AdroitNinja Michiganbeer Brewery Project: Silver Harbor Brewing Company

Over the years, as I've gotten more and more into craft beer and made it a point to visit breweries as often as possible, I've noticed that of the breweries that offer both beer and a full food menu, the vast majority only excel at one or the other. Typically, either the food will be uninspiring, or the beer will be average or just so-so. Silver Harbor Brewing Company is one of the few Michigan breweries I've found that manages to do both excellently.
SHBC opened in early 2016 in downtown St. Joseph. It earned its name because of its location between Benton Harbor and Silver Beach, the latter being just a 10 minute walk away. They offer a full food menu and have 10-15 beers on tap, with styles all across the board. Some of my favorites are Tourist Trap (American Lager), Golden Ticket (Oatmeal Stout), Hops, Sweat & Tears (IPA), Grandma's Favorite Recipe (Strawberry Rhubarb Kettle Sour), and the aptly named Shipfaced (English-Style Barleywine). Many of their taplist staples are available to-go in 4-packs and they also fill crowlers of the rest of their beers. Like many other craft breweries, they regularly hold concerts and do various events like this recent Girl Scout Cookie pairing. All of this is to reinforce their general philosophy of 'Beer Happy,' which more or less is meant to provide a welcoming atmosphere to any and all comers, beer drinker or otherwise, as they also offer a full array of wine and spirits (and their non-alcoholic root beer is amazing as well).
Whichever of their beers tastes best is obviously a matter of personal opinion, but as to which beer has been the best reviewed, it is undoubtedly Shipfaced. It has won what has been dubbed a triple crown of brewing awards by taking home gold medals at the 2017 Great American Beer Festival, the 2017 US Beer Open, and the 2018 World Beer Cup. SHBC was set to release Shipfaced in cans for the first time ever this Thursday (April 2nd) at their fourth anniversary celebration. Given the state of things and Governor Whitmer's executive order however, they have made the tough decision to close all operations until April 13th.
In an area of the state that already has some amazing breweries like Transient, Arclight, and Watermark, it's easy to overlook Silver Harbor, but the quality of their food and beer, and the accomplishments they already have under their belt shouldn't go unnoticed. Over the past four years, they've expanded by adding a beer garden as well as purchasing a canning line in order to grow their distribution footprint into neighboring counties. Whenever we move past our current situation and return to something resembling normalcy, I recommend stopping by and giving them a try. Make sure to get some Shipfaced to go.

Day 1 - Thursday, 2/20
6:15 am - Rush around as I slept through (maybe snoozed) my alarm. I quickly blend up a smoothie I assembled last night (random greens, peaches, cherries, berries, spinach, and protein powder) and pack up my lunch: spicy pork noodles with peanuts, broccoli, an apple, a banana, and an orange. I also put a little half and half in a jar so I can make coffee at work. I rinse my face, put on Clinique moisture surge moisturizer, pop in some contacts, and brush my teeth. I toss my make up bag in my purse and run out the door.
7:40 am - Get to work a smidge late. I quickly put on some mascara (Tarte Gifted), Cover Girl loose powder, and a random Estee Lauder eyeshadow. I get to work on a project I’ve been working on all week. I also make a cup of coffee and drink my smoothie throughout the morning.
9:30 am - Break time. I make another cup of coffee and work on today’s crossword. Thursdays are always so tricky, so I don’t get too far. Also throughout the work day I listen to podcasts. Today’s line up is Armchair Expert (which I started last month so I’ve been catching up), Up First, and Terrible, Thanks for Asking.
10:00 am - I go ahead and make a credit card payment for my cell phone bill that just posted ($43.45, included in monthly expenses).
12:00 pm - Lunch time. I heat up my lunch and read today’s Money Diary. 99% of the time I bring lunch with me to work. I always eat it away from my desk, to give myself a little break.
12:30 pm - Back to work and more project. I also end up eating a mandarin orange cup (already had at my desk), the apple, and the banana that I packed sometime throughout the afternoon.
4:00 pm - Done with work. When I get back to town to stop at the pharmacy and pick up some prescriptions. I use my FSA card to pay. ($22.91)
4:50 pm - Back to my apartment. I unpack my lunch bag and my tote and try and tidy up a bit. Then I go full lazy and just plop on the couch. My friend N texts me about hanging out, we decide to snack and watch a movie.
6:30 pm - N texts me he’s headed home with the snacks and to come over whenever. I change into comfy clothes and grab a bottle of red wine and a couple ciders to contribute to the mix.
6:45 pm - Get to N and E’s house and there’s already a spread of snacks: chips, chips, more chips, tots, and more (I swear it wasn’t just potatoes, just don’t remember what else there was, haha). I have some wine with my snacks and we decide on “Uncut Gems” to watch. It is good, with a wild ending!
9:30 pm - I head home and try to get things ready for the morning. I do a sink full of dishes, grind some coffee, and pull out my blender to make a smoothie in the morning. Then I wash my face, put on a little Sunday Riley Good Genes, FAB Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, brush my teeth, and take my allergy medicine.
10:30 pm - Finally crawl into bed and work on a crossword for 10 minutes before I turn off the lights.
Total spent: $0

Day 2 - Friday, 2/21
5:15 am - Up with my alarm today. I hop out of bed and put away the clean dishes from last night, set up the electric kettle for coffee and then go take a shower.
5:30 am - After showering I put on a serum and Clinique moisture surge moisturizer. I also put a little ultra repair cream on my forehead (I have a very dry/sensitive spot there, I avoid putting most other products on it) and my nose, trying to keep my whole face happy is hard. I sit on the couch for a few minutes while I drink my coffee and watch the news. Eventually I get up, put in my contacts, put on mascara (Milk Kush), elf Primer Putty, Cover Girl concealer, Cover Girl loose powder, a shade from the Naked 3 palette, and a little swipe of the FAB Beauty ultra repair lip therapy.
6:15 am - I make a smoothie (greens, peaches, cherries, berries, and protein powder) and add some frozen broccoli to a stir fry I made earlier in the week. I pack both of those up with a mandarin orange cup, an apple, and a strawberry watermelon seltzer water. I get dressed, brush my teeth, make a cup of coffee to take with me, and tie up the garbage to take out.
6:40 am - It is freezing outside so I bundle up and grab all of my things to leave. I drop my garbage off as I walk to my car.
7:15 am - I mobile order Starbucks on my way to work so I swing by and pick it up. I got a grande Americano with a splash of cream and extra cinnamon powder. I loaded $30 onto my card in January so I use that to pay ($3.13 + $1.00 tip). I always go to Starbucks on Fridays as a way to celebrate the end of the week. I try and reload my card when a credit card has a cash back offer. CC #1 had a 5% back offer in January, which is why I reloaded then. CC #3 has the offer now, so I’ll probably use that one to reload when my balance runs out. I try not to go any other day, to keep it a treat-y thing.
7:30 am - Get to work and jump straight into it. I drink my Starbucks and get a cup of water. Today’s work podcast lineup is Up First, Armchair Expert, and Why Won’t You Date Me? I also eat a mini Hershey’s bar that I had in my desk.
9:30 am - Break time. I sip my smoothie while I attempt today’s crossword. I also help out a couple of coworkers.
11:30 am - I get up and my earring falls out. I realize I lost the back to it and I retrace my steps and my efforts are futile. I put the earring in my bag so I don’t lose it, but I leave the other one in.
12:00 pm - Lunch time. I heat up my food and, again, eat it while I read today’s Money Diary.
4:00 pm - Leave work.
4:50 pm - Back in town, and it’s happy hour time! I meet E and S at our usual spot. They have drink specials and food specials (always important). I get a glass of red wine, wings, and a side of french fries.
5:30 pm - Squeeze in another glass of wine before happy hour ends. We decide to all head back to E’s house and hang out after we finish up. $29.38 (including tip)
6:15 pm - We walk back to E’s house and enjoy more wine while we hang out.
7:30 pm - Oh no, another bottle of wine appears.
9:45 pm - Finally call myself a Lyft to head home. $7.00 (including tip, I had a promo code that made the ride a little cheaper)
10:00 pm - Home, and I’m so excited to see my couch. I change into comfy clothes and lounge on the couch. I end up finishing an episode of Armchair Expert and put on some old episodes of Catfish. I take out my contacts, swipe a little micellar water on my face, and quickly brush my teeth. I finally get into bed around midnight.
Total spent: $36.38

Day 3 - Saturday, 2/22
8:00 am - Not sure why I’m awake, but I take the opportunity to get up, drink some water, and brush my teeth. And then promptly get back in bed.
10:00 am - Ok, this seems more reasonable. Wash my face more thoroughly and moisturize. I move to the couch, with more water, and try and decide the best way to get back to my car. I contemplate a Lyft, but that seems excessive. I put on some more Catfish to entertain myself. Finally I manage to convince my friend to try a new restaurant with me, and then I’ll mooch a ride from them.
12:45 pm - We walk over to Roulay for brunch. It’s brand spanking new and this is their first brunch. It’s a pretty small menu, but everything looks delicious. We get beignets, coffee, fried alligator, waffles, and shrimp and grits.Everything is super delicious and we’re excited to come back and try everything else. $26.46 (including tip)
2:00 pm - Nicely get a ride back to my car and then drive back to my apartment. I do the dishes and continue the momentum by doing my laundry. My building has a washedryer in it and there’s no charge for them, it’s amazing. I do 2 loads of laundry while I catch up on my shows: Grey’s Anatomy, Law & Order SVU, Will & Grace, and probably more.
6:00 pm - Laundry done and put away (always an accomplishment). Shower happens too.
7:30 pm - Brunch really satisfied me and a full meal doesn’t seem appealing. I decide I need some food though, so I pour a bowl of cinnamon frosted flakes.
11:30 pm - Not quite sure what else I did tonight, nothing too productive though. Eventually brush my teeth and get in bed.
Total spent: $26.46

Day 4 - Sunday, 2/23
8:00 am - Wake up and lay in bed for a while. Get up and make the bed (I do this every morning). When I get up I make some coffee and drink it while I listen to yesterday’s episode of Up First. I put away the clean dishes and tidy up the kitchen, it can get so crowded and messy throughout the week.
9:00 am - Settle in to finally catch up on This is Us. There is so much happening this season.
12:45 pm - Motivate myself to run a few errands. I go to Joseph Beth to try and pick up a book I ordered for a friend’s new baby, but they cannot find it anywhere. They look through basically the whole store and are so flummoxed because it’s not where to be found. They offer to order it for me again, and of course I don’t pay for it because I prepaid for the first copy. It should be in in a couple days. I also stop by Target and return a part of a gift I didn’t end up using ($11.64 back on my card). For a brief second I contemplate looking around for things I don’t need, but I restrain myself and just walk back to the car. Drive over to Warby Parker and get my glasses adjusted. I got them a couple weeks ago and they’re a little loose, they keep sliding down my nose. I am in and out in 5 minutes with snug glasses.
1:45 pm - On my way home I decide that nachos would be delicious and I have no interest in cooking. I call in an order to go. I swing by and pick them up and head home. $13.28 (including tip)
2:15 pm - Enjoy my nachos while I watch more Catfish. I can never understand the people on this show, so much cringe.
5:00 pm - Get in the shower and use one of my favorite hair products (Virtue Restorative Treatment Mask). It smells so good and makes my hair feel amazing.
6:00 pm - I sit down to paint my nails, so of course I don’t touch anything for an hour afterwards just to preserve my nails. After they’re fully dry I eat the rest of my nachos.
11:00 pm - Again, the night is a blur. I set up things for coffee and smoothie in the morning, brush my teeth, and get in bed.
Total spent: $13.28

Day 5 - Monday, 2/24
6:00 am - Slow goings on Monday, of course. Start the coffee, rinse my face, put in contacts, put on FAB serum and moisturizer, and same makeup as usual. I make a smoothie (greens, grapes, peach, berries, and protein powder) and pack up my lunch and breakfast.
6:50 am - Make a coffee to go and hit the road.
7:30 am - Arrive at work. Drink coffee and smoothie, eat a mini Kit Kat too for good measure.
12:00 pm - Lunch time. My leftovers are pretty sad at this point, but I power through. I also drink a mini Diet Coke I brought from home.
12:30 pm - When I get back to my desk I eat a cup of mandarin oranges and a cup of diced mangoes.
2:30 pm - Break time, and enjoy some Thin Mints. I sound like all I did was eat this day, I swear there was work happening too!
4:00 pm - Get in my car to leave and my gas level is almost in the danger zone. I decide to chance it and get it when I get back to town.
4:30 pm - Roll up to the gas station almost on fumes. I fill up my tank. $14.00 Then I go to Kroger and get things for the week: cucumber, peppers, bananas, apples, spinach, blueberries, refried beans, turmeric spice tea, sleepytime time, coconut milk, pasta sauce, lentils, cheese (ricotta), cheese (parmesan), more cheese (queso fresco), frozen broccoli, frozen orange chicken, frozen meal, toilet paper, and vitamins. $56.28
5:20 pm - Get home and put away the groceries and make the frozen orange chicken for dinner. I also make some rice to serve it over. It’s pretty good.
7:30 pm - Head to trivia a little early so I can watch Jeopardy before. I order a beer when I get there.
8:00 pm - My trivia partner arrives! We do pretty well the first half. I order another beer during the second half.
10:00 pm - We place! Our betting strategy pays off. We split the winnings and I end up adding the tip to my balance. $11.00
10:15 pm - Back home. I take a quick shower, brush my teeth, and do the sink full of dishes. Then, bed.
Total spent: $81.28

Day 6 - Tuesday, 2/25
3:40 am - Wake up very confused and thinking I overslept. I look at the time and almost immediately fall back asleep.
6:00 am - Now, up for real. I rinse my face off, put on some moisturizer, put in contacts, put on makeup, and brush teeth. I pack up lunch, chips and salsa leftover from the to go food on Sunday, mango cup, banana, and apple.
6:50 am - Hit the road.
7:30 am - Get to work and immediately make a cup of coffee.
9:30 am - Eat the chips and salsa for breakfast. Weird choice, put delicious. Also make another cup of coffee. Today’s podcasts are Up First and Armchair Expert.
11:15 am - Someone says they’re getting pizza for lunch and I’m easily persuaded. I get a personal pan pizza and drink. I don’t have any cash on me, but I’ll hop down to the ATM later.
12:00 pm - This pizza is delicious and so much better than my sad, old packed lunch.
2:30 pm - I head to the ATM with the intent of getting cash but it says they’re going to charge me an additional $2 charge, which seems silly. (Later I looked into this and my bank would have reimbursed me for this fee, in addition to the standard “not their ATM fee.” So next time I’ll just get the money, knowing I’ll be reimbursed for the fees.) Instead I tell my coworker I’ll pay them back tomorrow. Of course they say that’s fine, so I set myself a reminder to stop by my bank’s ATM. I also go ahead and email Allure Beauty Box to cancel my subscription. I prepaid for a 3 month subscription in December, but I have no need to continue. I already have way too many things to get through. I did get a lot of good products from the 3 boxes I got though, plus they always release full spoilers way in advance so you know if you’ll like it or not.
4:00 pm - Time to head home. When I get home I unpack my bags and get into comfortable clothing.
5:30 pm - I heat up leftover orange chicken and rice and add some frozen sauteed kale to the bowl. I also pack up the rest of the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I forgot to thaw the ground beef lasagna roll ups I was going to make for lunches, so this will do. I also go ahead and put the ground beef in the fridge so I can make them tomorrow.
7:00 pm - I watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, one of my favorite nightly activities.
8:00 pm - I read a little of A Selfie as Big as the Ritz by Lara Williams. I really enjoyed Supper Club so I decided to give this a try. So far it’s good. I got it from the library. If you’re not a member of your local library, join now!
9:00 pm - Take my make up off, wash my face, use some Bare Essentials serum I got in my last Allure Box, FAB Ultra Repair Cream, and random eye cream. I floss (finally finished this thing of floss!) and brush my teeth.
10:15 pm - Not feeling super tired so I make some tea. I laugh a little that I’m drinking my sleepytime tea from a Cafe du Monde mug, not exactly a wild Fat Tuesday over here. I do wish I had eaten some beignets today though.
11:00 pm - Finally crawl into bed.
Total spent: $0

Day 7 - Wednesday, 2/26
6:00 am - Wake up and start the coffee. I rinse my face, put on some FAB serum and moisturizer, and brush my teeth. Then I get dressed, pack up my leftovers and a mango cup, make the coffee to go, and head out the door. I leave a couple minutes early so I can swing by the ATM.
6:45 am - Swing through the ATM and get cash out for yesterday’s pizza. $6.00 I realize as I’m pulling out of the ATM that I forgot to put on any jewelry before I left the house. This feels strange.
7:30 am - Get to work, give the cash to my coworker, and get to work.
9:30 am - I’ve already had a delicious breakfast of Girl Scout cookies (Thanks A Lots), so I make another cup of coffee. I work on today’s crossword and, quite frankly, crush it.
12:00 pm - Lunch time. I eat and read MDs.
2:30 pm - Aimlessly peruse Sephora’s website to see if there’s anything I need. Surprise, there is not. Why do I do this to myself!?
4:00 pm - Leave work. On the commute home I hear there’s an accident that may affect my route.
4:30 pm - Get right into town and already see traffic. I make this so much harder on myself and attempt to try another path.
5:15 pm - Everyone else had the same idea. I try another route and I just keep getting stuck and frustrated. I feel so trapped in this mess of traffic. I know everyone else is too, but still. I silently rage and get myself on another path.
6:30 pm - I almost cry as I finally walk through my front door. Not being in control of my situation is so maddening to me. I pour myself a glass of wine from a box I have and sit on the couch. I read about the accident and see there were multiple fatalities and now I feel like a dunce. I remind myself to be thankful that I’m here in one piece and let a little chaos go.
7:00 pm - Watch Wheel of Fortune and contemplate dinner. I had big, big plans to roast veggies for tacos for dinner tonight, make lasagna rolls for lunches, and chop up veggies for snacks. That is not happening now. Instead I opt for a bowl of buttery, cheesy pasta. I watch jeopardy while I eat.
10:30 pm - Wash my face, put on some retinol and moisturizer, brush my teeth, and get in bed. I read a little and play solitaire on my phone before I fall asleep.
Total spent: $6.00

Weekly Total Spent: $163.40
Food + Drink: $102.02
Fun + Entertainment: $40.38
Home + Health: $0
Clothes + Beauty: $0
Transport: $21.00

Reflection: This week seems pretty average. I spend most of my money on food and drink. I don’t usually eat out 3 times in one weekend, so that’s a little odd. I try to limit my work week spending so I can splurge a little on weekends. This has really shown me that I need to look more into my pension! It’s such a hard system to log into that I normally ignore it, but I need to plan quarterly reviews of it, just to keep tabs of it. Since I got rid of my CC debt, I’m hoping to really build up my emergency fund and then start living on last month’s income (keep enough in my account for 1 month worth of expenses). I am a total numbers nerd and if my calculations/budgets are correct this should happen by the end of the summer.

2020.02.17 05:25 acct_base1234 Is your accounting department messy?

I recently joined the accounting department at my job. The lady that I share an office with is extremely messy.
Her desk is covered in papers. She has no system of organization, things are just where she last put them. I am afraid to put anything in her inbox because it has years worth of random stuff. She has a drawer full of old used papers.
She has a cabinet full of old food, multiple boxes of Girl Scout cookies with the year written on them (2016!!!), bags with jars of something that looks like bacon grease overflowing in it and stuff she took from Previous Christmas (2018) and stash away.
She doesn’t throw anything away. She has a type writer, old printer, monitor and old computer stuff just taking up space. She keeps a box of used tape for the calculator.
Because her office is like this, the important things she needs are flowing into my work space.
I am a very clean and organized person, very type A when it comes to my work space. It’s driving me insane. I made my bosses aware of the mess. I talked to her about it. Yet nothing has been done to resolve this.
So my question is, is it normal for an accounting department to be a mess?

Monday
5:45 am - Rise and shine! Just kidding. I snooze for 15 more minutes. TGI...Monday? Luckily my morning routine is very fast as I’ve left myself only 20 minutes to get ready. I put in my contacts and do my morning skincare - La Roche Posay Toleraine Hydrating Gentle Cleanser, Paula’s Choice Boost 10% Azelaic Acid Booster Cream Gel, Tonymoly The Chok Chok Green Tea Watery Cream, and EltaMD UV clear facial sunscreen. I keep my makeup very simple (because I'm always rushing) - eyebrow pencil, mascara, and blush. I get dressed in an easy outfit as well - black slacks, a gray sweater and black loafers. Lunch is packed and waiting in the fridge so I quickly drink a glass of water, grab my lunchbox (just a Lululemon bag actually) and scurry out the door.
6:27 am - I take a vanpool to work (~35 minute drive/25 miles) and we meet at a lot 10 minutes from my apartment. I really do not like driving and the drive to work eats up almost 2 hours of my day so the vanpool lets me reclaim some of this time to read (news in the morning or a book in the afternoon) and prepare myself for the day. You have to be at least 25 to drive so I always ride. The van leaves at 6:30 sharp so I am always pushing it to arrive on time.
7:05 am - We make it to work and I walk to my building and settle in at my desk. I usually pack breakfast as well but I didn’t today. On Mondays, I usually prioritize my time for the week, plan out my tasks, and schedule any necessary reviews. This week I really don’t have much on my plate so I poke around to see what I can do to keep myself busy.
11:30 am - I am meeting a friend from my internship for lunch! I didn’t talk with him at all during our senior year and we only recently ran into each other so this will be a fun catch-up. We decide to meet at the cafeteria but we both brought our lunch so I go microwave my food first. I packed leftover spaghetti with eggplants and mushroom and some strawberries from the farmers market! (Fun fact - I don’t cook meat at home because raw meat grosses me out. I’ll still eat meat at a meal out but this has been a really easy way to hugely cut down my meat consumption and a fun way to experiment with new recipes). My friend and I chat for an hour and 15 minutes. It’s a really good talk and we realize we’re having similar experiences in our jobs and have both picked up making things from scratch (sourdough for me, pasta for him). We decide to meet more often so I set a recurring lunch appointment when I get back to my desk. I debate for a while on the length - 2 weeks feels like not enough will have happened between meetings, 4 weeks feels like we’ll probably only meet like 5 times before one of us moves, so I settle on an awkward 3 weeks.
4:00 pm - The van leaves at 4:10 so I start packing up at 3:55 and start walking over at 4. I usually read Money Diaries and scroll Reddit for the first 10-15 minutes on the van then read a book. I’m slowly working through The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
4:45 pm - We arrive back at the parking lot. On my drive back to my apartment I get stuck behind a train for 10 minutes :( so I try to practice mindfulness.
5:15 pm - I get home a bit later than usual. I eat a slice of sourdough bread (baked fresh yesterday!) with lots of butter and raspberry jam. While I snack on that, I assemble a “Chipotle” bowl with rice, roasted veggies, beans, corn salsa, avocado, and salsa. It’s not the greatest honestly but it’s filling and I need to finish it. I decide to make a batch of lemonade soda. My ginger bug has been resting on the counter and is now room-temp so I make the lemonade and shake it up in a flip-top bottle then add some of the bug. Bug goes back in the fridge and lemonade stays on the counter. I also shake up some apple cider vinegar (really just apple scraps in fruity water right now) on the counter. Then I pack my lunch for tomorrow - leftover grits and collard greens along with more strawberries. Finally, I change clothes and get ready for my art class. I take an art class Monday nights at a local art studio near me. It’s only a 20 minute walk so I usually like to walk it over driving as I cross through Montrose and it’s a very pleasant and calming trip. However, I’m definitely running late today from all the extra stuff I did so I huff and puff it to class.
7:00 pm - I leave class mid-way to go buy an eraser at the art supply store next door. $2.73
9:30 pm - I talk with my boyfriend on the walk back. He is in Austin so we’re in a mid-distance (?) relationship. I shower when I get back then head to bed.
Daily Total: $2.73
Tuesday
6:00 am - I snooze way late but still manage to pull myself together for the vanpool.
7:05 am - After settling in at my desk, I decide to go eat breakfast since I’m really hungry and I have later lunch plans today. I walk down to the cafeteria and check emails and try to figure out what trainings I need to take. I message my boss and she messages me back as I’m in the middle of eating asking me to come to her office in response to my message. I tell her I’ll be there in 10 and rush to finish eating. $4.98
7:45 am - Ugh lots of confusion around this training but I think my boss will be able to figure out what I need.
11:30 am - I am having lunch with someone from my home church. I brought my lunch today but he asks where I want to eat and I feel awkward saying I already have food so I just go along with it and I figure he’ll probably buy my food. I run into a friend while waiting for him in the cafeteria. It turns out he knows my friend and greets her first which makes me feel awkward. We walk over to the kiosk and he waves me to order before him but then he goes over to the next kiosk so I end up having to buy even though I had food...sigh. I have a Mediterrranean bowl with falafel, rice, hummus, and veggies. $7.52
4:00 pm - The afternoon goes by very slowly so I’m excited to head out. I eat the fruit from my lunch before I leave.
4:45 pm - The van gets back to the lot. I have a cycling class at 5:45 so I have some time to kill. I head over to Buchanan’s native plants to poke around. I just planted some herbs and tomatoes in my community garden but I still have half a plot left plus I could use more house plants (only have 6 right now plus 2 newly planted cuttings). I look but don’t get anything today.
5:30 pm - I get to the studio and check-in. I rent shoes as I’ve only been cycling for a few months now and I don’t think it’s really worth it to get shoes that I’ll use once a week. $2
I normally take this class with C from work but she’s on business travel this week so I ride by myself. It’s a great workout! I really like this instructor (C. loves her and introduced me to the studio and the instructor!)
6:30 pm - Out of class so I head over to JuiceLand. I was planning this so I already have my resuable cup (with a reusable straw as well). The smoothie is $8ish but I use a gift card from my parents. I call my boyfriend while I’m waiting and we catch up on our days.
7:00 pm - I get home and immediately start cooking. I already cut up some carrots from the farmer’s market and they’ve been chilling in water in the fridge so I drain them and let them dry then throw them in the oven along with a sweet potato. Then I quickly throw together some chana masala with chickpeas that have been soaking since Saturday. Big mistake. They smell like a disgusting fart honestly but I for some reason decide to cook them anyway. I burp the lemonade soda (let out some of the built-up carbonation so the bottle doesn’t explode), shake up the apple water, and eat a slice of bread. I’m not super hungry so I just eat a carrot from the pan and finish my smoothie. I pack up all the food and prepare my lunch for tomorrow. I check my socials and am in bed by 10.
Daily Total: $14.50
Wednesday
6:15 am - I'm driving today because I have plans after work nearby so I sleep in a little later. I have no sense of urgency on mornings I don't vanpool so it takes me a while to get out the door. I snooze until 6:45 and don't leave until 7:30. I wear a blue Everlane sweater, wide-legged houndstooth Banana republic slacks and my black Nisolo loafers.
8:15 - I roll into work. Luckily, my job is flexible so I could arrive as late as 9 am. I really don't like staying late though which is another benefit to vanpooling. I eat my lunch from yesterday as breakfast today. (It was grits from brunch so it's not weird!)
10:30 - Pretty slow day today again but I just came out of an amazing one-on-one with my boss. He's not my day-to-day boss but helps with long-term career planning and other things like that. He is so amazingly supportive and receptive. I've been able to be very open and honest with him about my struggles in adjusting to this role and post-grad life. I've even told him about my interests in grad school! He genuinely takes an interest in me as a person and we've been exploring other roles in the company I'm interested in. He connects me with 2 contacts he has in other divisions. I leave in a really good mood.
12:00 pm - I head to a lunch and learn about plastics recycling (lunch not provided). At first, the topic really interests me as I'm very passionate about sustainability and recently started getting more invested in zero waste. However, I realize that like all things, the company only cares about money and how they can continue to exploit the consumer and convince them to consume more waste. I've had a lot of moral hang-ups about working at an O&G company. I interned here the summer before my senior year of college and accepted the return offer in September 2018. So, I sat with that decision for almost a year (I started working in August 2019) and I think I changed a lot as a person over that year. I don't know how much longer I can keep working here in good conscience :(
Also, the chickpeas from last night are disgusting and even after cooking for an hour they still smell horrible. I eat about a third of the chickpeas then eat the vegetables that didn't touch them.
2:15 pm - My plans after work get cancelled because of the weather so I drove for nothing. After a meeting with a senior engineer, I organize my notes and data then schedule a touchpoint meeting with the leader of the project tomorrow so I can keep it moving along.
5:15 pm - I leave work and stop to get gas first. I won’t see this charge for a month but I’ll add it here. $17.08
I head to HEB to grab some ingredients for tacos. I really want Piada but I convince myself to cook instead because I can probably feed myself for at least 5 meals for the same price as a wrap from Piada. I get 2 avocados, an ear of corn, a red onion, 3 jalapenos, 4 limes (4 for $1!), 2 pears, 1 apple, a pack of 10 corn tortillas, 2 cans of black beans and a jar of salsa. The total is less than the cost of a wrap so go me for saving money! $10.92
6:15 pm - I get home and immediately start cooking. This is a pretty quick recipe honestly but I still eat half a slice of bread because I'm very hungry.
7:00 pm - I eat 2 tacos and they are extremely messy but so yummy. I heat up 2 extra tortillas for lunch tomorrow and pack my bag. I also decide to make a caramel pear upside down cake as I'm craving a sweet. The cake is pretty easy to put together but it doesn't come out of the oven until 9:30 pm. (I really don't know what I was doing in between) I leave it out on a wire rack on the counter to cool.
9:45 pm - I take a shower and change into my jammies. I chat with my boyfriend for a bit and start scrolling through my phone while laying down.
Daily Total: $28
Thursday
1:45 am - I wake up with the lamp still on and teeth unbrushed. I guess I fell asleep while scrolling (an unfortunate college habit). I am groggy and disoriented. I stumble to the bathroom to pee and quickly brush my teeth then back to bed (lights off this time!).
5:40 am - First alarm goes off and I am exhausted. I snooze for 15 minutes.
5:55 am - I force myself up and quickly breeze through my morning routine - put in my contacts, wash my face, apply serum, and brush my teeth. I make my bed while the serum sinks in and then put on a pair of black slacks and brown Nisolo loafers. I check the weather on my phone and it’s fairly chilly! (37F). I really only have 3 sweaters and one is dirty, I wore the second sweater Wednesday so I find my gray Everlane turtleneck on the closet floor and quickly iron it. I apply moisturizer and sunscreen, twist my hair up into a bun and tuck my eyebrow pencil and mascara in my work backpack. I grab my lunch from the kitchen and move the cake into a large tupperware and pull on a light blue long WHBM coat. Out the door by 6:18.
6:29 am - I arrive to the lot at almost the last minute. I tried to send a groupme message at a redlight but I see when I get on the van that it didn’t go through. Ugh. I’m tired of showing up late and looking like a mess. I read the Skimm and Good Morning from CNN on the ride.
7:05 am - We arrive at work. I walk to my building and put my lunch in the fridge then microwave the rest of the grits. I eat at my desk while checking emails.
9:00 am - I don’t have much to do today so I draft an email to various work friends about the cake then set it to send out later. I prepare for 2 meetings I have.
10:00 am - I have my first meeting with an older engineer who is my technical mentor. The meeting goes way over and I am late to my second meeting. I run up to the meeting room but I can’t find the man I’m supposed to meet with (M.) so I check and see he messaged 10 minutes before but isn’t online. I walk over to his desk and he’s not there either so I talk with a friend (C.) who is on his team. He comes back after about 3 minutes and I apologize and he says that it’s no problem it happens all the time. I say I’ve never done to this to anyone before and genuinely feel bad but he kind of just walks away and says over his shoulder we can reschedule. Weird. His calendar is always super packed so I’m annoyed I couldn’t fit this in today. I stop at another friend’s (A.) desk while I’m on this floor and we chat for a few minutes.
11:30 am - I eat lunch with some other young engineers on my team. The taco is not great. The tortillas are super chewy and crunchy? Like a stale chip. Bleh. It’s also a really messy meal already so not great for work but I push through.
12:45 pm - I return from lunch and cut the cake. I give some to my teammates that sit around me. Various friends that I emailed stop by to get cake throughout the afternoon. When A comes we walk down to another friend who sprained her ankle to bring her cake and chat. A has a weighted blanket and loves it so I think again about getting one. I have trouble sleeping and frequently wake up during the night.
3:40 pm - I run into a coworker in the bathroom and we chat for about 15 minutes. We decide to figure out how old our bosses are the next day lol. I leave at 4 and walk over to the garage. I read through today’s money diary in the first part of the ride and then pass out as I am exhausted.
4:45 pm - Back in the parking lot. I remember to put my work backpack in the trunk and grab my wallet then head to Target. On my list is toothpaste, mascara (long overdue - my mascara is so dried out), and a weighted blanket if I can find one. I get my toothpaste and mascara then drift into the home section. There’s so many nice baskets which I could use for plants but I resist as they’re expensive and most of my plants are already in nice pots. I next drift over to the kitchen section. I have been meaning to get a few things so I grab a medium glass container, a small rubber spatula, and medium mesh strainer. I look around but can’t find any weighted blankets.
$23.01
5:15 pm - I see an email that my Warby Parker glasses are ready (ordered prescription glasses last week) so I decide to go pick them up. There’s a Chick-Fil-A right next to this Target and I’m still craving something greasy but I resist again and head over to get the glasses.
They look great! I notice there’s an Outdoor Voices next door (not sure how I missed this last week) so I decide to check it out. I’m a big fan of Lululemon leggings and Target tops for exercise clothes but I’ve heard good things about OV and I could use a few more pieces. I try on the TechSweat Flex Shorts and MiniMesh Longsleeve shirt. I love the look and send my boyfriend a sporty pic from the dressing room. I get both pieces.
$108.25
6:15 pm - I get home and put down my bags. I decide to go to the gym while I’m still not too hungry.
I go down to my apartment gym (not amazing but free) and do shoulders and triceps. It’s a pretty good workout although I’m distracted by the Athleta leggings I’m wearing that keep slipping down bleh. I decide to sort through my clothes this evening.
7:00 pm - I get back and eat 2 tacos. I wash a pot I left in the sink, half unload the dishwasher and half unpack my lunchbox. ugh. I check on my propagated plants and 2 are looking good and can be transplanted this weekend. Yay baby plants! I scroll through Reddit while eating then decide to lay down and finish looking through social media. I spend way too long and realize I am exhausted again. I pull out an old duffle bag I don’t want anymore and start sorting through clothes but I am really too tired for this. I work on this Money diary until 9:30 instead then head to bed around 10:30 but don’t end up sleeping until 11:30.
Daily Total: $131.26
Friday
7:30 am - I snooze until very late and don’t feel too guilty about it. I pack some leftover veggies and beans for lunch. Not super appetizing but I have dinner plans after work so I figure it’ll work out. I’m running out of clothes and it’s still cold so I put on the same black slacks from earlier, a long-sleeved black and white striped shirt, and a long structured camel blazesweater from J Crew along with my black Nisolo loafers. I decided to wear my new glasses! They look great! I pull my hair back in a tight bun and my whole look comes out very sharp! I leave later than I wanted but oh well.
8:45 am - I roll into work veryyyy late. I settle in but I have absolutely nothing to work on. I have a meeting later on some file cleanup so I sort through a few things in advance of that.
11:30 am - The meeting turned into half gossip but it was very juicy (not people drama just company/organizational drama unfortunately). I head out to microwave my food then go eat outside with people on my team. Even though it was mid-30s this morning it is now mid-70s and I am boiling in my sweater. I take it off and roll up my sleeves but it’s still very toasty. I see 2 friends (A from yesterday and P) walk past but they didn’t see me and I don’t want to shout at work. I walk over and chat with them for a bit. We decide to go for a long walk later.
1:00 pm - I get back to my desk and I am still so hungry. The veggies were good but I think I either needed more beans or some carbs. I debate with my coworkers and decide to get Chick-Fil-A (but ONLY the sandwich). One of them walks down with me to get a lemonade. I bring a slice of cake to take to the cycling friend in another building who has back-to-back meetings after being gone on travel. I buy the sandwich and then walk over to her building. She’s on the phone but I trade her the cake for P’s girl scout cookies. Then I walk back to my building, deliver P’s cookies and get back to my desk. I feel like I’ve been gone forever. I read some random articles on energy and sustainability on the company website while waiting for the walk with A and P. $4.35 (I don’t know the exact price and I put it on a rebate card :( but it was definitely 4 something)
1:45 pm - We head out for our walk. I’ve been here before but I’m confused on where we should enter so we walk a bit out of the way. P leaves early but it still ends up being a good walk. I pick up my CSA order while we’re out since the pick-up spot is far from my building.
2:30 pm - Back at my desk again. I read another article then do some prep for a site visit next week. I also buy a 10-class pack for the cycling studio. I have a 10% discount but it only works up to a 10-pack. I do the math and I’m paying only 40 cents per class more buying a 10-pack with the discount than I would with a 40-pack with no discount so I’m fine with it. This will last me a while as I usually only take 1 class per week. $184.50
3:45 pm - I tried to last as long as possible but it was too slow. I have plans at 4 so I’m not sure why I didn’t try harder to come in earlier. I leave around 4 and drive over to Torchys for my friend R’s dog’s birthday party! Really we’re just eating tacos and she brought her dog and some gifts...I guess it is a birthday party really. I have the taco of the month (Scallywag! Delicious!) and a peach maragarita. The other girls got queso and guac which I snack on. I run into a coworker and his wife there and hug his wife but not him and then overthink it later…. I chug some water and feel ok so I head over to the Bar Louie for my next plans. $12.44
5:45 pm - I completely forgot I was catching up with a friend from college at 5:15 so I call her back in the car and chat. I park in the nearby parking garage and finish up the call as I walk up to the bar. I promise to schedule a follow-up chat and be more consistent (my biggest weakness in friendships). I spot my friends at the bar. It’s 6 amazing black girls that work at the same company. (I am black since I don’t think I really mentioned it yet!). They already have a table full of appetizers so I snack a little on those. The waiter comes up almost immediately when I sit down so I order a Blue Moon because I can’t think of anything else quickly. We all chat and laugh for a few hours. I know 4 of the girls well and just met the other 2 but it’s a mostly good conversation. I feel a bit awkward at times because they all went to HBCUs and I went to my state school and in general I feel like my opinions don’t jive perfectly with theirs but it’s still a good time. One of the girls decides to have a game night at her apartment but by then it’s 9:30 and I have an early day the next day so I head out. I call my mom on my way to the garage and we discuss the plans for tomorrow: my family is driving to Louisiana to see my grandparents. I pay for parking on the way out and it’s so expensive! I look at my receipt and see I must have taken someone else’s ticket after we all validated because it has an entry time an hour before I got there. Oh well. It makes up for their appetizers I nibbled on. $5.79 for beer. $11 for parking.
10:00 pm - I get home finally and unpack my lunch. I think about packing my bag tonight but I’m too tired for doing things but not tired enough for sleep. I finally head to bed around midnight.
Daily Total: $218.08
Saturday
7:00 am - I try to wake up early but I am way too tired. I wanted to workout then check on my garden plus pack but I snooze for another 45 minutes.
7:45 am - I finally get up and get dressed. I only need one outfit which makes packing quick. I’m about to make breakfast when my mom calls me. They’re stopping at Panera Bread first so I ask for a sandwich. I putter around and water some of my plants and move 2 cuttings into soil. I say goodbye to my roommate who’s also going out of town this weekend.
9:15 am - My parents arrive. I settle into their car and eat my sandwich. We hit a lot of traffic trying to get out of the city. I start reading The General in His Labyrinth.
2:00 pm - We finally make it to Louisiana and head straight to lunch for my grandma’s birthday. I get stuffed soft shell crab. This is the only restaurant we ever go to here and the seafood is always delicious. My parents pay.
5:00 pm - We leave my grandma’s house and head over to my other grandparents’ house (an hour away). I hug my grandparents and settle in. We all sit around and chat and watch TV.
7:00 pm - My grandma made gumbo and candied yams. I’m still pretty full from lunch but everyone else is eating now so I have a bowl.
10:00 pm - After some talking and yelling/arguing (honestly just how my mom’s family communicates) we all start heading to bed. I dozed off on the couch at some point so I get up last and take a shower then head to bed.
Daily Total: $0
Sunday
8:00 am - My mom comes in to wake my sister and I but neither of us move for 10 minutes. We finally get up as everyone is yelling and cooking breakfast. We go to the bathroom together and brush teeth and get dressed. My grandma made grits, breakfast sausage, scrambled eggs, and biscuits for breakfast. I nibble a little but I’m not a fan of classic breakfasts. I pack up my things and spend a few minutes with my grandparents’ sweet dog.
8:45 am - We leave my grandparents’ house and stop to get some seafood on the way out. I love Louisiana for all of its amazing seafood. The drive is long and I dove and read a little. My parents always joke that they’ll make me drive but I always manage to avoid it.
1:30 pm - We make it back to Houston and I show my parents around my community garden. They think it’s really cute and my dad gives me some tips on my tomatoes. They then drop me back off at my apartment. My heart is full after all this sweet family time.
2:00 pm - I bring my bags up and I am starving so I leave right away to go to Piada (finally!). I have a gift card that covers the full cost but it’s around $11. I come back home and relax and watch Sex Education. At some point, I start “decluttering” which is just bringing out a trash bag and spreading stuff around the floor. I make a bit of progress on a small area.
8:00 pm - Have I been watching TV for this long?? I decide to go to the gym and do legs.
8:45 pm - When I get back I realize I need to pack lunch for the week. I have some kale from the CSA so I decide to make a salad. I cook some lentils for the protein and also add yellow bell pepper, radish from the CSA, leftover corn salsa from the tacos, and feta cheese. I cut an apple and pack everything into my lunchbox so it’s ready to go. Next, I decide to shower and wash my hair so I can restyle it to fit under a hard hat.
10:30 pm - Hmm time really got away from me. I get a text at some point in the night that our meeting time for work offsite tomorrow will be at 7 not 8 but it’s too late to rush my routine now.
11:45 pm - I played around on my phone for awhile then couldn’t fall asleep. Really not sure what’s going on with me but I know I am going to be exhausted tomorrow.

Reflection: This was a little high on the spend range for me but not too crazy! I don’t usually buy clothes that often so OV purchase was a treat but I usually have higher costs on various activities such as movie tickets or things like that. The cycling pack is definitely not a regular purchase so I’m not too worried about it. I have pretty aggressive savings goals because I’m not sure how long I’ll be in such a high-paying job.I also have to have a goal for savings or I’ll just spend so shoveling it into an account (401K and IRA) that I can’t easily access is very helpful. I’m pleased overall with how I did this week as I’m trying to reduce how much I spend on eating out while also enjoying time with friends. Sorry there wasn't much to say about work as this was a slow week but if anyone has any questions I'm happy to follow up. Thanks for reading!

2020.01.25 18:06 makdoll I can’t stay keto by the end of the day. 30w2d

I guess this is just a stream of consciousness post, but I’m open to advice if anyone has any. Even just commiseration.
I lost 30 lbs and was able to conceive all because of Keto. I started keto because of PCOS and always struggling to lose weight, especially after weaning my first LO in summer 2018. I followed this WoE from November 2018 until July 2019 when I got my pregnancy morning sickness. Only thing I could hold down was plain white rice and toast.
Over the course of this pregnancy, I’ve fallen off the wagon, hard. I didn’t even try to eat low carb. I ate anything and everything. Luckily, I didn’t gain way too much, but for my height and the fact that I started 30 lbs heavier than my goal, I shouldn’t have gained as much as I have.
I got a jolt of motivation a few weeks ago, my sister wants to try keto for weight loss for her upcoming wedding. So I told her I’d recommit with her.
I’m doing so good every morning and afternoon! I start off the day with eggs, sausage, I’ve even gotten into Chaffles. For lunch I’ve been having mini-charcuterie plates with veggies and my favorite homemade keto ranch dip. I’m eating more salad than I’ve ever had in my life.
But then comes dinner. I suck at eating Keto for dinner. Even if I’m able to forgo the carbs I cook for the rest of the family (picky toddler, MIL with dementia, and extra picky/hungry husband), I always crave dessert. And I almost always give in. Not with low carb SF desserts, but with the real thing. I try to not bring the bad stuff into the house, but I just end up sending my husband to the store for cheesecake or to the fast food place for a milkshake. I’m certainly not blaming him, I’m the one asking. And I bought Girl Scout cookies yesterday. My logic was that next year, I’ll definitely be keto again, and won’t be able to have them, so I should buy them now.
I think that’s the gist of my problem. I’m so worried about the foods I’ll miss out on once I’m keto after pregnancy, that I want to stock up on them now. And bedsides, it’s not like I’m trying to hit weight loss goals, I know that I’ll probably gain another 15 lbs in water and baby weight over the next 10 weeks.
I know that if I’m totally fat adapted, my cravings will drop off. And I want to be fat adapted before I start breastfeeding again because I don’t want the change in my diet to mess with my milk supply. So I need to get this under control now, so I’m not trying to make another change once baby arrives in early April.
TL;DR : Even though I want to be keto, I use my pregnancy as an excuse to eat what I want because I’ll miss it later when I’m doing keto for PCOS symptom alleviation.

Yes, I buy girl scout cookies practically every year. But I haven't had any come door to door in ages, although I did go door-to-door when I was one decades ago. Parents bring the lists into work a lot and as others have said they set up outside grocery stores and some other businesses too. Samoas (mmm caramel and coconut) and Thin Mints (chocolate and mint) are my favorites. The others I can take or leave.

I sold them back in the day, but I wouldn't say I was a cute angel. I went door to door in my neighborhood to take orders and then delivered the cookies a few weeks later from my little red wagon. The money went to my troop for a summer camp.
My favorites were Carmel Delights, a.k.a. Samoas, and Peanut Butter Patties, a.k.a. Tagalongs.

They are often setup outside the grocery store or stores like Walmart and Target. I’ve never seen them go door to door. Their parents have order sheets they’ll bring to work sometimes.
I generally buy 2-3 boxes a year. Samoas and Trefoils are my favorite. Sometimes I’ll grab Thin Mints too and being them to work to share. I don’t stock up or anything though. The cookies are not that good, they taste like any other packaged cookies. It’s more of a supporting a decent cause kinda thing.

They are overpriced but not bad. You’re essentially helping fund their organization/troop not paying for a cookie, you can probably get the same quality at a super market for a lot cheaper.
Girl Scouts don’t typically go door to door selling as its seen as potentially dangerous so its often discouraged at least nowadays, instead they sell outside businesses as well as take orders from friends and family. They may have their parents take order forms to work and take orders from their coworkers.

They don't come door to door as much as they used to.
The cookies are overpriced but pretty damn good. I don't mind supporting the girl scouts. I'm a thin mint guy, followed by a tie between samoas and peanutbutter patties.

They don't go door to door now, do they? I remember my little sister did it that way in the 80s. These days they set up a table outside Walmart or a grocery store. I often miss them now since I do my Walmart runs in bulk so I only have to go 2 or 3 times a year.
I'll grab a couple boxes of thin mints. They're good. Not amazing and I'd pass if the price goes up again.

You want the super super American secret, there are different bakeries that have different variants depending on where you live.
But yeah, I stock the freezer. I’m on Jersey so find them at grocery stores but in PA, they came door to door.

I think for so many years, Girl Scout troops have not gone door to door selling those cookies. You are correct that usually I see them set up shop outside popular places(i.e. Target, Walmart, Starbucks), or say inside popular seasonal events. For example when it comes to the latter, I've NEVER not once seen the Girl Scout troop with this church not set up shop inside one of the dining rooms of this church's fish fry, to sell those cookies each year.
To me though it's almost getting to the point where it's getting more pricey to buy a box of one of those cookies, where I may as well instead buy such a cookie knockoff somewhere else. I.e. Aldi, Walmart, etc. I still buy them like once or twice a year, but that's probably enough for me.

Other people have already covered the lack of door to door sales these days. I was particularly impressed by the girl a few years ago who set up a sales point near a legal marijuana dispensary and sold a lot.
I like Thin Mints and the lemon ones. I don't remember what they're called; they didn't have those when I was a Girl Scout. Thin Mints are best from the freezer. They're also the most economical: you get quite a few for your $5.
They're better than other purchased cookies IMO. No store bought cookie holds a candle to homemade, but sometimes you don't want to mess with baking.

2019.10.05 07:57 RoniMarie13 Planned parenthood does not encourage abortions and people should not boycott the girl scouts because of “ties” to planned parenthood

First time posting, this is my best summary for a TLDR: friend posts status saying planned parenthood isn’t pro abortion, dude comments that yes they are. I respond and a debate ensues, dudes last comment is about my sex life and socks, then tries to disappear when people call him out.
I debated on posting the screenshots, but there are 9 in all. While I could remove faces and names, it could be too identifiable. I also want to add that I messaged my friend after the first few comments back and forth to apologize for hi jacking her status, but she was totally okay with it. She even commented a few times in support.
Several days ago I was scrolling through the book of faces when I came across a friends post with a link to “life news” demanding that people boycott the girl scouts because of their “ties” to planned parenthood. My friends post was saying that planned parenthood isn’t pro abortion, that they’re pro education. I decided to look at the comments and there was one person who commented right after the post. His stance is that PP is pro abortion AND pro education. My friend pointed out that while they offer abortion at some locations, their goal is to provide education on prevention and options. In her words they’re not rooting for people to get abortions. He said they do both.
Normally I try to ignore people who say things like this because there’s no use in trying to educate them. But I was running on 1.5 hours of sleep, had already finished work for the day, and I feeing optimistic- which later became snarky. I simply responded- “Pro-choice does not equal pro-abortion. Pro-choice equals a woman having the right to do what is best for her situation, her body, etc. Their goal is to provide preventative care (including cancer screenings), education, and make birth control more accessible/affordable.”
Boy, was that the wrong thing to say! I was obviously so wrong. He tried to educate me by telling me that because PP lobbies for the right to have an abortion, they are obviously pro abortion. Further education continued when I pointed out that lobbying for a choice doesn’t make an organization pro abortion, he advised me that I was arguing semantics. After I pointed out what pro life supporters care about (fetus versus the woman or child after the birth) he helpfully posted a screenshot of Google defining semantics for me to review. I congratulated him on his ability to use Google, then helpfully linked him to PP’s education page.
He suggested that I use my energy to go to the grocery store instead of having a rousing debate on the book of faces. While I’m not 100% sure what he meant by that remark (maybe he doesn’t even know?), I’m assuming it’s something to do with me being a woman, and my place is in the kitchen, blah blah, blah. 😑 I didn’t address this statement, cause I felt it didn’t deserve a response, but suggested that he review the PP website in the future to see what they actually work towards. He then insulated that I must “have sex with my socks on because you’re (I’m) such a bore”. I responded one final time to him- “Yes, because I’ve told you you’re wrong, because other people have told you that you’re wrong, start going for personal attacks. There are much better ways to have a conversation. Perhaps when you’ve had time to review their website we could continue this riveting conversation.” And other people jumped in about how I had struck a nerve with him for him to begin personal attacks, and that it was pathetic that he went that route.
All in all I wasn’t that snarky or combative, and I think it pissed him off that I remained pretty level headed with occasional snark/sarcasm thrown in. I wanted to share this because I can’t believe people actually want to boycott the Girl Scouts, and I can’t believe they’re basically saying the Girl Scouts want to encourage abortions.

2019.09.03 07:57 XXX_KimJongUn_XXX There is no difference between Venezuelan and Nordic economic policy.

R1: Some people believe there are no significant differences between Venezuela and the nordic states.
Case 1,Case 2.
Long story short, government policy, good institutions and free markets have given the nordics thriving capitalist economies compared to Venezuela’s sputtering economy hampered by bad policy, institutions and a general hostility to free markets exemplified in the form of various price controls, subsidies and even theft. As a result sweden, norway and denmark rank 9,10 and 16 on the World Economic Forum’s global competitiveness rankings for 2018 while venezuela ranks 127. Yes, they both have markets and money and firms but Venezuela is doing almost everything in its power to interfere with them.
Specific claims for case 2:
You keep using this language. What on earth is the "natural market?" Presumably you consider government outside the natural workings of the market and thus its activity is "interference." But there has never in history existed a market without government nor likely will there ever (because it is impossible). It's like accusing humans of "interfering" with nature. Makes sense sort of from a moralistic perspective but really is scientifically gibberish, as humans are objectively part of nature. Any government action in a mixed economy is "natural."
So when individuals trade goods and money with each other it’s called it a market. In properly functioning markets the amount of a good supplied equals the amount of a good demanded because for both parties their value from the thing they’re giving up is at least equal to their value from the thing they are receiving. Thus, without an outside force beyond the government enforcement of institutions, directly interfering with a competitive market you will not see shortages or surpluses except in the extreme short run from a sudden demand or supply shock. Sufficient property rights, protection from violence and trust is needed for a market to be competitive requiring some level of government involvement in a legal system, police force and regulation.
However, Government is not needed for people to trade with each other and for markets to exist. Black markets as seen in Venezuela for milk and toilet paper are examples of markets unregulated and facilitated by the government. Drug trafficking and smuggling also work without governments, tribal bands that trade with one another are examples of markets without government, lemonade stands and girl scout cookies etc. If one subsidized, regulated, or price controlled lemonade stands the outcome for the market(quantity and price) would change from a “natural” equilibrium without government interference.
Norway has nationalized industry, private industry, and price controls sometimes. Venezuela the same. What magic mix pushes one over the edge to socialism or totally not ideologically labelled "markets critically not interfered with?"
The scale of Venezuelan anti-market policies is far beyond those found within the nordic states. The government controls the price of meat, milk, toiletries, televisions and even sent the army in to curb the economically free black markets for consumer goods. The way price ceilings work is that the government mandates that goods cannot be sold for a price higher than their natural equilibrium rate. As a result for many suppliers its not worth it to supply the good and for buyers it's more attractive to buy the good. Thus the amount of goods demanded outweighs the amount of goods supplied creating a shortage where there was previously none. This has an allocative deadweight loss and additional inefficiencies from inefficient behavior like having to wait in lines and deal with black markets. The nordic states do not have black markets for eggs because they do not have price controls to the degree that exist in Venezuela. Now in the event of monopoly markets price controls can create better outcomes than unregulated free markets by setting price equal to marginal cost but for competitive markets like consumer goods there is no justification for this level of government interference.
Also orthodox economics is a pseudo-science.
And those nations that accept it have the greatest standards of living in human history compared to their anti-market contemporaries. Our work is peer reviewed, empirically verified and economically successful unlike whatever economic school the Chavez administration was using.
Venezuela is a specific nation with specific price controls in a specific time. A particular instance that has gone bad. Bolivia next door does not have the same problems as it is not a petro-state under siege. China, as I am led to believe, is a nation of price controls. Nations are unique and can have unique problems or unique responses to policies. The scale and effect of price controls will depend on the market(competitive, monopoly, etc). However implementing price ceilings in competitive markets will create shortages no matter what nation they are in. Venezuela’s shortages problems not because they are innately allergic to price controls. It is because they implemented price controls in markets where it is economically inefficient at an enormous scale. Almost every nation has some price controls and subsidies but for most they do not touch competitive markets to such an enormous degree. Inflation is due to Venezuela's particular price control policy not working. You specify "ineffective" nationalization.
Inflation is a monetary phenomenon. The Chavez administration cranked the printing press in an irresponsible bid to increase growth and used price controls to alleviate the issues, not the other way around(Naked Money, Charles Wheelan, page 25). When people expect inflation to increase the government needs to pump more and more money into the economy to reach the same level of growth through monetary policy. This leads to accelerating inflation because people's expectations of inflation keeps rising and rising unless deflationary monetary policy like raising interest rates or engineering a recession is done.
Does that mean you're not asserting Venezuela has more nationalization than Norway? Because if you were asserting it more nationalized, I'm not so sure (not going to look it up for this thread). Corruption is a politically neutral problem.
Venezuela nationalized billions of dollars of firms through expropriation in the last decade, unlike the nordic states which had built up their state industries over the decades. The key difference is not the presence of state industries but of expropriation. It is not safe to operate a large industry in Venezuela because the government is likely to take it unlike in Norway. Expropriation is not good for developing efficient markets and can lead to scenarios where the government industries exercise monopoly power hurting consumers. Of the nordic states only norway’s economy relies heavily on state industries. If a American company were to create a large farm in Norway they would not need to worry about having it be seized. Rather they would be able to compete with state firms in a relatively free market unlike in Venezuela where price controls and expropriation would prevent any meaningful reason to compete with state firms. Having some nationalized industry is not a problem if handled correctly but Venezuela’s nationalizations have created distrust and inefficiencies in its markets. The act of expropriation was not because Chavez was a corrupt individual, it was because his brand of economic populism made it a core issue and promise.
Suffering poor people demanding inclusive institutions for once from sociopathic corrupt entrenched political elites?
If your goal is to develop economically inclusive institutions then the policies of Chavez and Maduro will not achieve your goals. Rather the opposite in fact.
TLDR: Nordics and Venezuela are not the same.
Edit: added clarification saying that government is needed for competitive markets but not for the existence of markets

2019.08.09 01:33 DemonCoreYT 3 Cold Cases Still Unsolved

If you want to watch the video instead of reading: https://youtu.be/A4XGkplyYpk
Story 1: Mikelle Biggs
Mikelle Biggs was a 6th-grade honor student in Mesa, Arizona. She played clarinet and wanted to be a Disney animator when she grew up.
On the evening January 2, 1999 Mikelle was playing outside with her sister Kimber. Mikelle was 11 and Kimber was 9 years old.
Mikelle was riding Kimber's bicycle and doing big circles as they were waiting for the icecream truck.
Kimber told her sister she is going back inside since she was cold. She crossed the street and looked back to see her sister still doing big circles. That was the last time she ever saw her.
When Kimber went back 90 seconds later her bicycle was still there, but Mikelle was gone.
In an interview Kimber said "the thing that sticks out most in my mind about that day is the bike on the road" "you know, it was on its side. The tire was still spinning"
30 minutes later there was 1000 people looking for her. Investigators had very few leads and no physical evidence.
Investigators looked into her father Darien Biggs and the neighbor Dee Blalock, but as the years went passed and leads dried up, the case went cold.
Nearly two years after the disappearance of Mikelle that very same neighbor, Dee Blalock was convicted of beating and raping a neighbor.
March 14, 2018 there was a glimmer of hope. A dollar bill was turned in to the police by a man who said he had found it in stack of bills collected as payment for Girl Scout cookies. A child's scrawling on it caught his eye.
It said "My name is Mikelle Biggs. Kidnapped from Mesa. I'm alive". Her name was misspelled and the writing looked like someone who tried to write like a kid.
It is now 20 years later and the disappearance of Mikelle Biggs is still a mystery.
Story 2: Shonda Stansbury
Shonda Renee Stansbury was 24 years old when she disappeared in Weldon, North Carolina.
Stansbury was last seen at about 6:00 a.m. on December 9, 2006 at her sister's workplace the Waffle House. She had a lot of bruises on her face and legs and a bump on her temple.
One of the customers at the Waffle House gave her a ride to the West Side Trailer Court in Roanoke Rapids. Stansbury had been staying with friends at the trailer court prior to her disappearance, but on the day she was last seen they asked her to leave. She has never been heard from again.
Police initially believed Stansbury left willingly. At 11:30 a.m. on December 14, however, a woman in Walden County, South Carolina called 911 and said she had seen a woman whom she believed was Stansbury, running into the woods behind the Information Grocery Store off Highway 158 in Halifax, North Carolina.
The woman hung up without identifying herself and investigators were unable to trace the call, but a few days later the police tracked down and spoke to the witness.
She told them two black males chased the woman, who was naked, bleeding from her face and screaming for help, into the woods. The witness knew Stansbury and recognized her. She said that she didn't try to help, because she was afraid for her life.
The witness described one of the men chasing Stansbury as between 28 and 32 years old, 5'8 tall with a dark complexion, big arms and a stocky build. He was wearing jeans, a white t-shirt and a baseball cap and may have been bald.
The other man was 5'6 with a medium build, light skin and dreadlocked hair. He may have been wearing Timberland boots, jeans with patches on them, and an oversize button-down shirt which was possibly brown or light brown.
Stansbury's case was reclassified as an endangered missing person as a result of the witness's statements.
In January 2008, over a year after her disappearance, several more people came forward and reported that they saw Shonda in Wilson County, approximately 60 miles away from Roanoke Rapids.
Detectives were sent to search for Shonda in Wilson County, but again failed to locate any trace of her.
Stansbury has three children. Her mother believes she may have sustained a head injury that caused amnesia and that she may be unable to recall her identity. Her case remains unsolved.
Story 3: Valentine Sally
In 1982 a body was found in Williams, Arizona. She was named Valentine Sally since the was found on Valentine's Day and no one knew who she was.
An Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer was looking for a tire that had blown out during a car accident when he stumbled upon Valentine Sally's body.
She had been suffocated or strangled and left face down near a tree a few feet away from the highway.
Nobody noticed Valentine Sally until she'd been out in the sun, exposed to elements and animals for about 10 days.
We know very little about Valentine Sally. One of her lower teeth was recently prepared for a root canal as soon as a week before her death.
Valentine Sally likely had her ears pierced, and she had blue eyes. Her left foot and thigh had a noticeable scar. She was about 5 ft. 4 inches and 120 pounds.
One possible sighting of Valentine Sally in the days before her death emerged as investigators began piece together a story. A server and owner at the Monte Carlo Truck Stop in Ashfork, Arizona, claimed to have seen the victim on February 4.
Patty Wilkins described Valentine Sally as a teenager, perhaps 16 or 17, who did not want to eat but rather asked for aspirin because she had a toothache. She was sitting with an older man Patty described as a father or uncle. He appeared concerned about the victim’s teeth as well. The man was about 60 to 65 years old and wore a cowboy hat decorated with peacock feathers.
In another possible sighing, a student at Northern Arizona University claimed he had picked up a hitchhiker matching Sally’s description on February 2 near Cordes Junction. The student claims she was coming from Phoenix and worked as a dishwasher but was having family problems. She needed to get to Flagstaff first so she could hitch a ride with a truck driver heading east to New Jersey.
Today, Valentine Sally is buried in a Williams cemetery. Her DNA awaits matching, but no potential relatives come forward in the search. Valentine Sally has remained unidentified for more than 36 years.
